Capture & Liveness · Fortface SDK

Challenge-free liveness.

Secure capture. A smoother journey.

Fortface combines automatic facial capture with challenge-free liveness evaluated by iBeta at Levels 1 and 2. A cross-platform SDK for registration and authentication journeys, designed around security, operational efficiency, and user experience.

Journey challenges

Verification should protect without adding unnecessary difficulty.

Instructions that are difficult to follow and repeated attempts can interrupt registration or authentication. Facial capture needs to account for different users and conditions without relying on movement challenges to perform a liveness check.

Movement challenges can make completion harder for people with different accessibility needs.

Capture difficulties can lead to retries, abandonment, or support requests.

Security needs to address both presentation attacks and manipulation of data within the capture flow.

Operational outcome

Reducing barriers during capture helps simplify the user experience and avoid operational rework.

Business impact

Capture experience also affects your operation.

01

Journey continuity

Simple, guided capture helps users complete registration or authentication.

02

Operational efficiency

Fewer capture difficulties can reduce retries and the need for assistance to complete verification.

03

Capture integrity

Liveness needs complementary protections against substitution or manipulation of biometric data.

The solution

Automatic capture with multiple layers of security.

The SDK guides face positioning and captures automatically. Fortface processes liveness without requiring users to blink, smile, or perform a sequence of movements as a verification challenge. The interface can be customized to your company’s visual identity.

Challenge-free liveness and injection attack protection serve complementary purposes: one layer evaluates presentation attacks; the other protects the flow against the insertion of manipulated biometric data.

What changes in capture

How it works

From integration to results, with guided capture.

STEP 01

Integration

Use native Android and iOS SDKs, the Web SDK, or Secure Link for browser-based journeys without installing an app.

STEP 02

Capture

The user grants camera access and follows positioning guidance. Capture happens automatically when the required conditions are met.

STEP 03

Liveness

Fortface processes liveness using capture data, without requiring movement challenges.

STEP 04

Result

Your application receives the result through the API or, with Secure Link, by webhook, and continues according to your operational rules.

Available via

Android SDK
iOS SDK
Web SDK
Secure Link

In SDK integrations, capture data is sent through the client’s backend to the Fortface API. Secure Link provides a hosted web flow and returns the result to the client’s system.

Defense layers

Protection against presentation and injection attacks.

Biometric security involves evaluating the facial presentation and protecting the data flow. Fortface combines defense layers for these two scenarios.

Protection in front of the camera

Photos, videos displayed on screens, and masks can be used to imitate a real person in front of a camera. Fortface liveness was evaluated by iBeta at Levels 1 and 2 in presentation attack detection tests under ISO/IEC 30107-3.

Accessibility

Accessibility built into the capture experience.

Fortface conducted focus groups and tests with people with different accessibility needs, including people with visual impairments and older adults. Their documented experiences informed changes to messages, navigation, and positioning guidance during capture.

Clear instructions and accessibility features help different users complete capture more independently.

SDK features

Text contrast guided by WCAG

Guidance text designed for readability

Navigation order and element descriptions for screen readers

Messages that complement capture status colors

Positioning messages

Guidance explains how to adjust framing. On compatible devices, detection of an active screen reader allows specific positioning messages to be adapted.

Example with an active screen reader

Tilt your head to the left.

Example of framing guidance

Move the camera to the left.

Framing guidance is not the same as requiring a sequence of movements as a liveness challenge.

User experiences

Quick to use, with clear instructions before the photo was taken. No errors and a clear success message.
User with a visual impairment, iOS
The first positive point is that I managed to complete verification on my own. Even though it took time and was difficult, I did it on my own. The second point is being able to navigate all the screens easily with the screen reader. The third positive point is getting immediate feedback with each movement of my face.
User with a visual impairment, iOS
Fast, accessible, and efficient.
Older adult, Android
Use cases

From registration to recurring authentication.

Capture and liveness form the entry stage for Fortface facial biometric journeys. Depending on the integrated modules, this stage can be combined with identity verification, 1:1 authentication, 1:N identification, and biometric database management.

Liveness evaluates whether a live person is present. Confirming identity or a match with an existing record depends on the verification or authentication modules used.

Onboarding and registration with liveness

Authentication of critical transactions after registration

Access recovery and sensitive data updates

Periodic revalidation and recurring journeys
